Acting Work
I choose to write about Heath Ledge acting in thou film called The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger has done extensive research into his role as the joker
In preparation for his role as The Joker, Heath Ledger hid away in a motel room for about six weeks. During this extended stay of seclusion, Ledger delved deep into the psychology of the character. He devoted himself to developing The Joker's every tic, namely the voice and that sadistic-sounding laugh (for the voice, Ledger's goal was to create a tone that didn't echo the work Jack Nicholson did in his 1989 performance as the Joker). Ledger's interpretation of The Joker's appearance was primarily based on the chaotic, disheveled look of punk rocker Sid Vicious combined with the psychotic mannerisms of Malcolm McDowell's character, Alex De Large, from A Clockwork Orange (1971). (IMBD.Date Unknown)
This show heavy commitment to character preparation he could now use this as a source of referral whenever acting, over applying to lines. it also show discipline.
the hospital scene.
The part where makes 'Two face' hold a gun to the jokers face I felt made an impact to me because its showed the sociopathic side of him, how heath ledger acts to this is very relaxed almost, like he has control of the situation and he knows what he is doing.

casting
This has come from Donna, we don't know this person beyond the phone call but here is the proposal. As always, think carefully and be careful at outside castings and opportunities and keep us informed about them.
Good evening,
We spoke briefly on the phone today regarding a casting that I'm organising for our low budget feature film.
Please see details below
The Hinterland (working title) is a lo budget sci-fi noir feature film shot primarily in Brighton. The dystopian metropolis created by the local Director, Producer and Cinematographer of Universal Pictures movie '4.3.2.1' will be leaning on the talents of the vfx and post team that delivered Peaky Blinders and Sherlock amongst others. The story is about one man's search for his identity in a world designed by capitalism.
We begin shooting in early December through to January with a 2 week break for Christmas. The actors will typically be required for three days a week.
We are holding a casting on Sunday the the 2nd of November at the Marina studio's we are looking for two lead roles and we want to use local actors were possible
Ed – anti-hero 20-30's
Ed is an anti-hero – a black market games dealer with no scruples - a bad man with his slate wiped clean… His brain reformatted to zero. But is his past a product of nature or nurture? Will he relapse into hedonistic self interest or join the bigger cause of the revolutionaries? His attraction to unobtainable Mia and her selfless ambition to change the world for the better of mankind hints at a brave new Ed – but is it actually all just a distortion of allure – is he really just after his old personality to be reinstalled? He nonetheless possesses a manner of nihilistic inevitability. Disdain and weariness afflict his every move.
Mia – hero
20-30's Non causation
Mia is a revolutionary. She has a dark past that fuels her selfless drive to change the world. A tough soldier, she is logical to a fault - she rebuffs Ed’s attentions (Men aren’t her bag) but uses him to get what is needed, despite her suspicions of his ultimate intentions. Her selfless acts of heroism for the greater good represent the best that Ed could be. She would happily give her life for this cause. Perhaps the only happiness she will ever find.

Short
film
I have chosen a short film called happy cloud the reason I have
chosen this is because it is animated and because it is created by a local
theatre group in Worthing. This also won an award in London for short stories
called the first light awards, the reason I like this is because it is unique
and brings with it a weird comedy. This short movie attracted me and had me gripped
by the first minute, so I knew that this would be the piece I would evaluate
and use as my short film. The reason I like this animation is because it has an
unexpected turn at the start which keeps you on your toes from that point, it
also has a wide range of characters all with different attitudes which I feel
really works and is well used considering that it is at an amateur level. This
short film was realised in 2010 and won a small award which than made it get entered
into the first light awards which was held in the oden theatre in London the
short film than won an award in first light awards.
My actor choice
My choice of actor is David Tennant the reason behind this
is because he is an actor that I like and admire the main ability that David
has that I will be talking about is his ability to have great control over his
voice which results in him being able to hold an English accent while suppressing
his Scottish natural accent this technique and skill are things that I want to
learn and master for myself as I feel it will help me in monologues and
characters. You can see this happen in such comparisons such as when he goes
from the doctor in the tv show Doctor who and than watch how he performs Shakespeare
in stages shows like hamlet and tv shows such as Casanova. If I could have that
much control I know it would help me in finding a characters voice or using it
bring a certain character more to life, a way I can improve how I am now is to
practise and realise what part of my throat is working and what part is
tensing, this is what Jo has taught me and using that with phonics I feel that I
could get to a whole new level.
Jordans unit 7 work for joe
Unit 7 Acting for camera
Techniques:
Mining the text: Throughout the first few
sessions of unit 7 I learnt how to mine text and how it really helps you to
understand your character. Mining the text is going through the script and
picking out all the little details that give you knowledge of what’s going on
in the scene or information that reveals more about your character and asking
the key questions who, what, why, when. Examining the text helped me understand
more about the character and their intentions. Reading about the layout of the
scene helped me shape an idea of what situation my character is in and how my
character would react in the circumstances this in turn helps me hugely develop
my character. I used this technique throughout the whole unit on each new
monologue I performed making me much more knowledgeable on my character which
in turn helped me portray the character in a more true to the script way.
Another
exercise we did was to think of our character as an animal or a color or even a
piece of furniture. This exercise is used when you’re stuck on a character and
helps generate a new way of looking at the way your character would move or
speak how their stance would be etc. I found this exercise particularly useful
when looking at my character for my first monologue “A Tiger and his prey”
seeing my character as a predator I added in slight elements of a tiger to
change the way my character moved his head and scratched his arms I feel these animalistic
elements helped develop my character into a more interesting view on him.
Another useful
exercise which links with the one above is when you’re trying to develop your
character but you’re stuck so you give your character a problem for example
make it so the person you’re talking to really smells or make your character be
in love with the person your speaking to. Giving yourself these problems is a
useful way to explore your character and help you to try and play your
character different each time you
Internalize the character: one of the best bits of feedback I got
which helped me develop as an actor throughout this unit was to internalize the
character before externalizing the character. What I was doing was adding elements
to show the audience what I wanted them to see my character as. For example if
I wanted my character to be seen as scared and low states I would hunch over
and be very introvert but the problem with adding these physicality’s on top
before getting into character is they don’t look natural and when on camera
look far too over the top and unrealistic. But the feedback I got was that I should
try and embody the character first and internalize all their feelings and
emotions and that way the physicality’s will come naturally and therefore look
much more realistic on camera. I learnt that when performing to a camera every
little detail is picked up so by internalizing everything the little changes in
your body/voice will be picked up so instead of on stage where you have to show
slightly over the top actions on camera it’s much more about the internal
monologue.
Short film: I looked at several short
films one of the ones I felt was interesting was “The interview” which had been
uploaded to YouTube by “Bad Teeth” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxiWvzN5wto
(The Interview / Live Stream Finalist // Bad Teeth, 2013) their use of relatable comedy was simple but
delivered very effectively with great comic timing. I felt that it was a simple
idea executed very well and that it shows how you can create a great short film
without over complicating it or having a massive budget. Another short film I
watched was The Gunfighter directed by Eric Kissack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYP-2UCS5nY
(The gunfighter - (voice by Nick Offerman), 2014) which had the very unique
idea of having the characters being able to hear the narrator and playing on
the comedy of that situation. They obviously had a much larger budget than some
of the other short films I watched including “the interview” but they didn’t
spend all their time trying to show of special effects which in a few of the
short films I watched tried and it takes away massively from the story and
acting ability instead they used the money on costumes and the scenery etc
which enhanced the performance of the actors and the comedy rather than trying
to take the limelight.
Actor analysis: The actor I have decided to analyze
is Robert Knepper
Background: he started acting at a
young age because his mum’s involvement in the acting community and later went
on to study drama at Northwestern University. Before his big television break
as the character T-Bag in prison break. He was involved in many different
theatre performances from 1977 to 1998 while also getting small roles in films
and television shows. Since his performances in prison break he had gone on to
star in many more television shows and films such as: “transporter 3”, “heroes”,
“Mob city” and many many more and is due to star in part one and two of “The
hunger games mocking jay”.
Analysis: the reason I choose Robert
Knepper was because his ability to add multiple layers to his characters both
internally and externally and his attention to detail is incredible he fully
understands everything about his character from the back story to the way they
would speak and then uses these as tools to create the character here’s an
interview of him talking about his role in prison break. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SdOn1znnKQ (Robert Knepper, Prison Break, Series 1 extras
interview, 2011) what I find interesting is his ability to take the setting and
use that as a stimulus to base part of his character off and his incorporation of animalistic’s into
this role. What I find particularly
interesting is how he adds the layers of what his characters is thinking
internally and how that effects his external movements and his knowledge of the
accent he is using and how he can use that to affect the way he delivers lines
in different scenarios I am very impressed how he adds all these elements
together while still being able to keep the character naturalistic and
completely believable. An example of both his ability to act internally and
externally can be seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS-E8WdpqjM (Prison Break - T-Bag
(Theodore Bagwell) Best Of (HD), 2013) from 0:00 to 1:35 there are multiple
examples of him using animistic movements from his walk to the way he moves his
arms and mouth are all based on different types of predators a lion/ snake this
shows his ability to apply justified movements to enhance the character also the
way he utilizes the accent allows him to play around with different ways to
deliver lines indifferent scenarios giving him a wide range of different
delivery’s in each scene. From 5:36 to 6:08 he shows a great use of
internalizing the emotions of the characters which I feel makes this scene very
powerful even though he has very few lines in that section.
Summary: I feel his ability to play extreme
character with great range of acting ability whilst still keeping the roles
believable make him a great actors and his dedication to the roles unearthing
everything about them to enhance his performance really show his dedication to
his craft and as someone who want to improve their ability to make characters
believable and to be able to internalize a character more I feel I can learn a
lot from watching his performances. I find it very interesting that he uses
several techniques we have been taught through the unit such as the exercise of
thinking of your character as an animal and about internalizing your character which
then brings out the external character so it’s very interesting how he’s
developed these techniques and how that links up with out unit.

Shivvy's Unit 7 Acting For Film
Shah Rukh Khan
The reason I have decided to study this actor is simply because
I idolize him and because he is my favourite actor in the world.
From being Nominated 231 times he won 211 Awards
70 of the 80 movies Shah Rukh has featured in are romantic
films.
.
Shah Rukh Khan was born in 1965 and went on to feature in over
80 Bollywood films. He began his career in 1988 as a 23-year-old boy in a TV series called ‘Fauji’ and then featured in another TV serial called ‘Dil Dariya’ both shows were made in Delhi.
Shah Rukh said both shows “got a very high rating and was being recognized as a well-known TV star” However even with the success he had he felt he “was the worst actor in the world” because of the film shooting experience he had. He said “yes they were retakes” but “15 retakes” proved to be too much.
He never stopped believing and finally his big break came in 1992 where he starred in ‘Deewana’ where he was recognized for his work and won the prestigious Bollywood ‘Filmfare Award’ for Best Actor Debut Male.
Shah Rukh Khan has proved to everyone that starting off small in TV shows you can work your way up to stardom. Although he says he “had no method to become a star, I did whatever made me happy”
What I love about Shah Rukh Khan is that he adapt to play any roles, from hero to villain and he also played the role of disability and played it really well. What most people don’t know about him is that he is known as the heart of Bollywood, because in majority of the films he has been in he plays a hero, romantic gentleman.
As said he got his big break in ‘Deewana’ but interestingly in
1993 he experienced playing a villainous, negative role twice in ‘Baazigar’ and
‘Darr’ “which took his career to new heights and established him as an
acclaimed actor” in Bollywood. He said “evil or devil” “be it in films and
television, have some sort of attraction” Shah Rukh started with theatre and
there was nothing better like a “heroic” character but he also says playing a
villain is “one of the greatest” as an actor he enjoys playing the roles.
Here is what Shah Rukh Khan says about acting he believes that
acting should be kept real and simple, don’t think too much about it, you just
have to feel it, and if you are unsure then ask questions to your director,
tell him you don’t know what to do and he will help you.
King of Bollywood, King of Romance, Shah Rukh Khan a man loved
by the whole world and also many Bollywood celebrities here are what they say
about him.
Having co-starred with Shah Rukh Khan in many films this is what
Kajol says about him:
“For me Shah Rukh Khan is
like a God” He is “kind and will always take care about the problems of his
friends” He is a person who is very easy to discuss and talk with. He likes to help people. For me he is
a very “special human being”
Ambitabh Bachchan
Shah Rukh Khan is the rage of the country he is a “superstar
and loved by millions of people”....he's a very “very hard working actor”
doesn't take anything for “granted”
Shahid Kapoor
I think Shah Rukh is a “completely self-made” person. He
started “right from the beginning and has reached the top” all through his own
efforts. I wish him more success and the best of health.
The whole world says Shah Rukh Khan is such a humbled even
Hollywood actors would like the opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan.
Shah Rukh believes acting is giving your heart, knowing you will
lose it. Feeling the truth even when it’s a lie. Believing it’s permanent
knowing it won’t last. He also said acting is expressing what you don’t
understand not what you know. If you know it then it’s a fact. That’s facting
not acting.
In comparison these are some of the techniques Michael Caine has
said.
An
actor relaxes in front of the camera by concentrating, The camera catches
everything you do, so don’t be afraid to play things subtlety, If you’re going
to smoke on-screen, you must plan it absolutely perfectly, don’t mess up the
continuity. A majority of movie acting is relaxation.
Personally speaking. Whenever I
see Shah Rukh Khan in movies, he looks so relaxed, concentrating really hard,
you don’t sense any stress. He knows what he is doing, what emotions to play.
The characters he plays are not always the same, he shifts from being hero to
villain, villain to hero. Another thing I like about Shah Rukh he cares for the
world, he wants his acting to relate to the world and that’s why he starred in
the movie titled ‘My Name Is Khan’ made in 2010 the movie brought such a strong
message. Shah Rukh acted as an Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome man, post 9/11. The
message portrayed was that not every Muslim, Hindu’s are terrorists.
When Shah Rukh performs he makes
your heart melt, not every actor can do that, he has the handsome look and
charm about him. Especially when he is either dying in a movie or crying he
shares the emotion with the audience and we as humans feel it.
With Shah Rukh being a smoker,
this shouldn’t affect him at all, when he smokes on screen, it looks natural
and perfected every time. He only smokes when he is a villain. It has the cool,
gangster look about it.
Shah Rukh Khan also believes when it comes to acting in
Bollywood movies “you have to be an all-rounder” he has described what life in
Bollywood film industry is like in cricketing terms. He said this because in
Bollywood, you have songs, dance, and action in the movies. In order to make it
big at the industry, Shah Rukh said “you can't just be the
batsman, or the wicket-keeper, or just a good fielder. You have to be
physically fit” an all-rounder.

Short Films
Disney Short Paperman 2012
I couldn't find one that I really like and the ones that I do like are animated.
Paperman was the one that I really liked even though it was a non- speaking short film I absolutely love the idea of it. It has many meanings behind it but for me personally it shows that Love can happen anytime, anywhere instantly. It was made creatively, the fact that it was made in black & white effect works, it gave it a romantic atmosphere.
