Evaluation:
1st performance: this
performance was our first time running everything together in one go without
stopping so we knew things might not go smoothly but it was to prepare us for
out later show. I felt it started really well everyone had lots of energy and
the crowd was very involved with laughing which gives everyone a boost. But as
the show developed we all dropped in energy levels which made the whole performance
much slower and less intense this was partly due to losing the immediate buzz
of opening the performance but also because key blocking was missed and lines
forgotten which made the performance feel a little disjointed so when the things
started to go wrong everyone’s performance dropped slightly on a positive note
the improvisation when things went wrong was brilliant and we managed to
complete the play without stopping and maintained stage presence and character.
There were a few tech problems but we managed to adapt and finish the show.
2nd performance: the second
show started with the same high energy levels as the previous shows but we
managed to maintain it much better throughout the performance there was still a
slight dip in the middle but not much. The blocking was much better and none
was forgotten this helped raise the emotions and interest in the scenes they
were supporting. I feel everyone managed to raise their performance to a new
level for this performance and we managed to make this performance much better
than the first one. For me personally it was a bit of a struggle as I had a bad
headache from the start that kept getting worse but I tried to use it to enhance
my role of Rodger and think of Christopher as the headache to help me build up
the anger as the scenes progressed. I tried to slow down my pace of speech with
the duty sergeant which I felt I did although it was still a bit too fast and
could still be improved. For Rodger I tried to build up the anger more rather
than a sudden outburst which I think I managed. Overall I thought this
performance was great and much improved on the previous show the focus from
everyone was amazing and we managed to work well together and with the tech
staff everyone took on feedback from the previous show and used the feedback to
improve there performances.
The unit: I found the unit very
interesting as it gave me the chance to develop multiple characters using a
mixture of Brecht and Stanislavski which I found very interesting integrating
the two different styles. There were lots of challenges through the unit mainly
chorus work which I struggled with but I felt I managed to master it by the
end. It was a great first show to do to work with people I had never done a
show with before and I felt in the end we created a show we could be very proud
of. I felt as we got closer to the show I kept managing to develop my characters
and constantly tweak and improve my performance before the final show.
