Hey guys so I saw a show last night that a friend of mine
was in. It was called Paper Minds which was about aging which seeing as we are
working on aging for the fringe was perfect to watch anyway it gave me some ideas that we could potentially use so thought
I would tell you some of them.
One of my favourite scenes in this play was centred around
books. This whole play had a theme of memories and they mainly used books to show
this. These books acted as memories and stages of a couples life so in the
book there would be a picture of this memory such as a child so it would be a
picture of a child or for example a birthday where it would be a picture of a
birthday cake they would then use these memories in a true form if that makes
sense. I thought it was such a good idea so thought I would share that. They
stated that everyone’s life is like a library of memories and the question was
do we all listen to these memories of others or just collect them in a way. I
don’t know I thought it was really interesting I could probably explain it way
better in person but thought I would attempt explaining on here. They also used a lot of physical theatre in this which works amazingly with the ageing theme somehow this movement made some parts very powerful to watch. They also used a lot of music most of this of which was 'old' music which I didn’t like so much I found it to stereotypical. I think if we are using music we shouldn’t go stereotypical but think about what and why we are using it. It might be nice to make a contrast with music as well. That’s probably really obvious but still. I think stories that people have or ‘collect’ is such a nice and big thing when you think of aging. They asked a lot of questions in this play like we have been doing ourselves and even some we have come up with ourselves for our piece. They even asked the audience rhetorical questions.
Thought I would share that with you guys but the main thing I loved from this show was the idea of collecting memories and all they teach you and all you can learn from them or just listening to these ‘old’ people or anyone for that matter. They showed this in such an inventive way as well which I can’t really explain in writing but have given it ago anyway. Hope it all makes sense.
