Our Story

I was asked to write out the basic storyline of our version of Beowulf. Taking the initial five steps below which we agreed in one of the workshops with Sarah I have written a basic draft of what the story is.

As the process continues I intend to add to this, more description, alliteration etc and bulk it out with our ideas as we go along.

For now the basic storyline is as follows: -

Beowulf

Thousands and thousands of years ago in ancient Europe there lived a great warrior known as a Beowulf. He was a much celebrated warrior honored by the king and adored by his public. Our story begins amidst a celebration of the great Beowulf in a local mead hall lavishly decorated, with enough food and mead to serve a small nation.
Outside in the wilderness laying near a large lake lived the great troll called Grindle Grindle hears the celebrations and is disturbed and angry at this interruption. The king instructs Beowulf to construct an army and kill the terrifying troll once and for all. Beowulf creates an army from the men in the mead hall and then hatches his plan to defeat the great Grindle. The celebrations continue for days until at last the army was ready to set out on their journey.
Grindle the great lay in wait near a dark, damp, cave when Beowulf and his great warrior army approach and the battle ensues. Beowulf cuts off Grindle's arm and the troll retreats. Beowulf defeats the terrifying troll in a show of bravery rarely seen in these times.
unknown to Beowulf the trolls mother is out for revenge and plots against Beowulf, the king, and their army. Beowulf slays the mother and their glorious victory is celebrated and renown for several years to come. Returning to the king they again celebrate their adventures in the mead hall.
Fifty years later and Beowulf, now much older, is still living in peace, known as the greatest warrior of all time.
Suddenly a dark, deranged dragon appears and yet again Beowulf has to prove his greatness in one last, battle. The greatest battle of all time begins and eventually Beowulf has to prove his honor at the cost of his own life.
Stuck, unable to move, moments from death at the hands of the dark dragon, Beowulf cuts off his own arm in order to slay the beast and put an end to his reign of terror, dying in the process.
Now laying dead after his last triumphant defeat, Beowulf is laid to rest and his story circulated to the people outlining his brave and bold defeats in battle. The story is passed down through the generations and is now down to us to retell the tale and bask in the glory of Beowulf.
